Healthy outcomes start with healthy lifestyles. Clean food. Daily exercise. Ample Vitamin D. That's why as Councillor I will boost funding to recreation programs in this city. Officials will be hired to operate house league sports for children and adults across the city. Wallace Emerson and other fitness and recreation facilities will be open from 7am to 11pm, 7 days a week. We will hire more lifeguards at City pools and staff the wading pools from May to October. We will boost subsidies to amateur sports organizations so that your ice time and your Rugby Ontario dues are cheaper and the sports you love made more accessible.
And we will fund it through sin taxes on fast food and on cigarettes. It is not right for responsible people to continue to subsidize slovenly lifestyles and bear a disproportionate share of healthcare funding through OHIP they never need.
Furthermore as Councillor I will provide whatever financial and legal support is needed to Toronto Water to keep the much-needed expansion of our sewers underway. We need to keep our water clean and sanitary to avoid the spread of infectious diseases like cholera and dysentery. Water sanitation is the greatest public health achievement in human history.
